Casting Clinic 2024
This year we had our Members Casting Clinic on April 6th. Drew Alway from Always Fly Casting instructed for the second time. We had a Beginners session in the morning and advanced session in the afternoon with pizza lunch for both groups at noon. Gil Schiller managed the day for the Club.
Drew Alway is a Fly Fishers International Certified Instructors who utilizes
FFI teaching techniques. For further information go to their website https://alwaysflycasting.com/.
I received nothing but positive feedback from our Member that participated.

BTW here are those five essentials we've mentioned:
Bill and Jay Gammel’s Five Essentials of Fly Casting:
1. There must be a pause between each stroke, which varies in duration with the amount of line outside the rod tip. (Short line, short pause; long line, long pause)
2. Slack line should be kept to an absolute minimum.
3. In order to form the most efficient, least air resistant loops, and to direct the energy of the cast to a specific target, the caster must move the rod tip in a straight line. (SLP: straight line path)
4. The size of the casting arc must vary with the length of line past the rod tip. (Short line, short stroke; long line, long stroke)
5. Power must be applied in the proper amount at the proper place in the stroke. (Smooth acceleration to a sudden stop)
